Why is my website not showing on Google? (7 real reasons)
Your website exists but Google can't find it. Here are the 7 most common reasons β and what to do about each one without hiring an expensive SEO agency.

You have a website. You've told people about it. But when you search your business on Google β nothing. Or worse, you search your main service plus your city and you're nowhere to be found.
You're not alone. This is one of the most common questions we hear from business owners. The good news: most of the reasons are fixable β some in under an hour.
First, check this: Open Google and type site:yourwebsite.com (replace with your actual domain). If results show up, Google knows you exist. If nothing shows, you have an indexing problem β start with reasons 1 and 2 below.
The 7 most common reasons
1. You never told Google you exist
Google doesn't automatically find every new website. You need to submit it yourself through Google Search Console (search.google.com/search-console). It's free. You verify your domain, submit your sitemap, and tell Google to start crawling. Without this step, you might wait months for Google to find you on its own.
β Fix: Submit to Google Search Console today
2. Your site is too new
Even after submitting to Google, it takes 2 to 8 weeks for a new site to be properly indexed and start appearing in results. There's no shortcut here β Google needs time to evaluate your site. The best thing you can do is be patient and make sure the site has good content.
β Fix: Wait 4β8 weeks after Search Console submission
3. A "noindex" tag is blocking Google
This is more common than you'd think. Some developers set pages to "noindex" during development β so Google doesn't index a half-finished site β and then forget to remove it at launch. In your page's HTML, look for meta name="robots" content="noindex". If you find it, remove it or change it to "index".
β Fix: Check for noindex tags in page source
4. Your site loads too slowly
Google explicitly uses page speed as a ranking factor. A site that takes 6 seconds to load on mobile will rank lower than a comparable site that loads in 1 second. This is especially common with WordPress sites loaded with plugins. Test your site at PageSpeed Insights β a score below 50 on mobile is actively hurting your rankings.
β Fix: Test on PageSpeed Insights, aim for 80+ on mobile
5. Your content doesn't match what people search for
If someone searches "plumber in Tacoma" and your website says "we provide professional fluid management solutions" β Google won't connect the dots. You need to use the words your customers actually type. Your homepage should say "plumber in Tacoma" not corporate jargon. Your service pages should name the specific services and the specific location.
β Fix: Use plain, specific language with city + service names
6. No one links to your site
Google treats links from other websites as votes of trust. A brand new website with zero links from anywhere is essentially unknown. Start by listing your business in free directories: Google Business Profile, Yelp, Yellow Pages, and any industry-specific directories. Each listing creates a link back to your site and helps Google confirm you're a real, legitimate business.
β Fix: Set up Google Business Profile + local directory listings
7. You're searching for the wrong keywords
Many business owners search for highly competitive, broad terms like "web designer" or "best plumber" β and wonder why they don't rank. These terms are dominated by national platforms and established businesses with years of SEO work. Focus on local + specific searches: "plumber Tacoma WA", "emergency plumber South Tacoma". These are more realistic to rank for and more likely to convert anyway.
β Fix: Target local + specific keywords instead of broad terms
